Trains in Andorra

Andorra has no railway system at all. The country is a small, mountainous principality in the Pyrenees with no rail infrastructure. To reach Andorra, travelers take a train to a nearby station in France or Spain, then transfer to a bus for the final leg into the country. This bus-and-train combination is the standard approach for visitors without a car.

L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre is the nearest French train station, located just across the border. SNCF regional services connect it to Toulouse. From the station, buses run into Andorra la Vella. The rail journey from Toulouse follows a scenic Pyrenean route. Check current timetables on the SNCF website, as service frequency varies by season and some connections may require changes.

Take a Renfe train to Barcelona Sants, then transfer to a direct bus to Andorra la Vella. The bus portion typically takes around three hours through the Pyrenean foothills. Buses depart throughout the day from near the station. There is no direct rail line between Barcelona and Andorra, so the train-to-bus transfer is unavoidable regardless of which route you choose.

Generally, you need to book the train and bus portions separately. Purchase your train ticket through SNCF (from France) or Renfe (from Spain), then book the connecting bus to Andorra independently. Some bus operators sell tickets online in advance, which is recommended during ski season when demand is high. Check each provider's website for current availability.

Train-plus-bus is typically the more economical option compared to flying, from Barcelona or Toulouse, since both cities are relatively close. Buses to Andorra generally accept standard checked luggage in the hold. But oversized items like ski bags may have restrictions depending on the operator. On the train leg, French and Spanish regional trains typically allow you to bring luggage aboard without extra fees, though space can be limited during peak travel periods.
